This unit will continue to build upon the knowledge and vocabulary from the previous unit, in the study of fractions. Students will use knowledge about equal parts of a whole, key terminology, and comparison, in order to make, order, and compare fractions (visually and numerically). Students will use the symbols greater than (>), less than (<), and equal to (=), when comparing fractions. This unit starts out with problem solving, to find and use fractions. We will then be breaking apart fractions and comparing solely numerators, or just the denominators. When we have solidified this concept, students will compare different fractions of the same whole. We will finish up our fraction learning by making equivalent fractions (fractions that mean the same amount).
