This unit will continue to build upon the knowledge and vocabulary from the previous unit, in the study of measurement (in Metric Units). Students will begin by measuring models by use of centimeters (cm). They will practice aligning the correct side of the ruler with the object, and finding where the object ends (in centimeters). They will also relate the idea that 1 unit cube=1 centimeter. The students will go on to estimate and match lengths of objects, and then use a ruler to find the exact length. After that, the students will practice addition and subtraction of lengths, numerically and within story problems. Students will also learn that 1 meter=100 centimeters. They will use this knowledge to solve problems of measurement. They will then estimate and find lengths, using the measurements of meters (m) and centimeters (cm). Students will complete the chapter by subtracting and comparing lengths of objects. They will apply previous measurement knowledge in order to accomplish this task, and enhance their skills in this area.
