In this chapter, the students will be covering Money & Time. They will begin by recognizing and adding together the value of money. They will cover pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars. They will also be able to use the cent sign, decimal point, and dollar sign correctly. They will even count coins in order to find correct change. Students will show the same amount of money, graphically, and in many different ways (with different coins). After counting coins, the students will move on to learning about dollar bills. They will find the value of various amounts of money, amounting to greater than one dollar. Students will use basic problem solving skills to find these amounts in story problems. Next, students will move on to learning time to the hour and half hour. They will be able to recognize that every number on the clock face is five minutes apart. Quarter hours (quarter past and quarter 'til) will be practiced and drawn on a clock face. Students will learn to label time with A.M. (Midnight) and P.M. (Noon).
