In this chapter, students will compare numbers and describe whether they are equal to, less than, or greater than one another (=, <, >). They should also know the terms: greater than, less than, fewer, or more than, in comparison. They will also identify 1,000 as ten hundreds, 100 as being equal to ten groups of ten, and 10 as ten ones. Students will also write or draw pictures (base 10 modeling of 100's, 10's, and 1's) to explain their problem solving of word problems. They will learn to circle the numbers, underline the question, and show their work! Numbers will be shown in different forms: hundreds, tens, and ones, standard form, base 10 (pictures), expanded form, and word form. Students will also review the concept of even and odd numbers. Additionally, students will practice counting on and back by 10's and 100's. Comparing numbers and counting on and back will first be done in base 10 format, for easier understanding of the concept.
